Valencia Book Fair
The 60th edition of the Valencia Book Fair will be held from April 24th to May 4th in the Jardines del Real. Once again, this event becomes one of the most important in the publishing sector in Spain, and for this special anniversary, the municipal libraries have organized more than 30 activities aimed at all audiences.
Specifically, the libraries will bring four storytellers to children's areas at the Book Fair and will also have a space where various workshops will be held on April 15, 26, and 27, and May 1, 3, and 4. All of these activities are designed to promote creativity, imagination, and a love of books.
In addition, this year the Fair will pay tribute to the bookstores affected by the Dana disaster on October 29th, who will also be present with their booths, symbolizing their resilience and passion for reading.
Activities in municipal libraries
Highlights include literary workshops, storytelling, book presentations, and author signings.
Among the most engaging activities will be creative and interactive workshops, such as comic book and literary creation workshops, family and adult reading clubs, and reading promotion courses, such as bookmark creation, cover design, and literary games.
Literary craft workshops will also be held, such as "literary paper toys," where participants can create fictional characters from paper.
In addition, more than 30 storytelling sessions will be held in English, Valencian, and Spanish in various libraries throughout the city. They will be distributed throughout all neighborhoods and will focus on promoting the sector from childhood onward.
Exhibitions and book presentations
And anyone who wants to meet their favorite authors in person and discover their new works has a golden opportunity at the presentations organized at various libraries throughout the city. This includes the books "Stories of a Sewing Kit" by Ángeles Fons; "Quisicoses" by Vicent Cortés; "The Traces of Orieta" by Ramón de Aguilar Martínez; and "1978. The Echoes of Fear" by José Vicente García.
Valencian libraries are also organizing various exhibitions, such as the "Krisova" exhibition, curated by Petkova, which will be held at the Carola Reig Library in Benimaclet, or the "Symbols and Languages" exhibition, developed by the Fine Arts professors of the Polytechnic University of Velania and the Graver Mantenant Association, which can be viewed at the Joanot Martorell Library in Marxalenes.
Meanwhile, the traveling exhibition "María Beneyto: A Life Wounded by Letters" continues in April, in collaboration with the Valencian Academy of Language. The exhibition, composed of explanatory panels, explores the life and work of the Valencian author and, this time, will be open to the following libraries: Torrefiel, Sant Marcelí, and Na Rovella.
Charity events
Solidarity will also be a strong presence in the commemoration of World Book Day. Several libraries and public spaces in Valencia will hold charity book markets to raise funds for DJO AMINATA, a group that fights against female genital mutilation and supports survivors, and for the international organization Save the Children, which dedicates its efforts to improving the lives of children living in the poorest and most devastated regions of the planet.
All the books sold at these charity markets have been donated by citizens and library users throughout the year.
In short, the commemoration of Book Day in Valencia is an unbeatable opportunity to enjoy literary creation in all its forms. The activities planned, not only at the Fira del LLibre (Book Fair), but also in the various Valencian libraries and exhibition halls, offer us the opportunity to discover a wide variety of ways to enjoy books and culture. Most importantly, it provides the ideal opportunity for our young people and children to discover the immense pleasure of reading a good book.
